ftp opened write protected

Bug Description

the connection to ftp basically works okay. when opening a file via the connection in gedit it get's open write protected (as gedit shows). Saving is disabled (ctrl+s doesn't do anything). When using 'save as' dialog it works well. Using Screem for a test didn't work at all. Just "no permission" messages.

Write permission on the ftp server is no problem - tested with gFTP several times.

Thank you for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? Could you describe what the bug is? You list some random things you do and how they work, what else would you expect?

I hope it will be reopened, as this happens to me also :)
Has anyone tried to reproduce it?
or how can this be debugged -- to see where is the problem exactly?

I'm reopening this bug, as I can also confirm this bug on Ubuntu 8.04 „Hardy“. This bug can be confirmed in both modes:
1. Run Gedit, choose File->Open Location (CTRL+L) and write ftp address of the file you wanna open (eg. ftp://<email address hidden>/incoming/intel_xv_attr.diff
2. Go to Places->Connect to server... , connect to needed ftp server (I've tried ftp with password) and open some text files from ftp server.
Result is always the same - file is opened in read-only mode, but I've full access to ftp server :(

Other software, for example Bluefish editor opens file in read-write mode - I've opened file successfully through File->"Open URL..." in Bluefish !!!
