Bug Description

To replicate:
1: Use firefox to download a file of a type that automatically opens read-only in gedit
2: From gedit, try to save the file to another location using "Save as..." from the File menu.

Both "Save" and "Save as..." are greyed out, but the ideal behaviour is to disable only "Save", leaving "Save as..." still enabled.

Thank you for your bug report. Could you provide extra steps/details to trigger the issue?

I tried to open a file in /usr and to open a diff from launchpad in firefox https://code.launchpad.net/~vrruiz/ubuntu-system-settings/autopilot/+merge/192869/+preview-diff/+files/preview.diff)

I get a "save as..." active menu in each case

As you can see, I don't get a "Save as" when I open that link in gedit. All I have to do is tell firefox I want a file to be opened in gedit and the bug appears, there are no further steps or details.

Weird, the print items are also unactive there. I can't confirm the issue though... we might need somebody having the problem to debug it (would be worth trying out of an unity session/without the integrated menus in case that's an issue without those), or to upstream it

I can confirm that this issue does not occur on my laptop which is still on raring.

I can't confirm on 14.04 Alpha-1, with or without indicator-appmenu.
@Jeremy, can you try using a live USB, just in case the filesystem matters?

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

Ubuntu 13.10 (saucy) reached end-of-life on July 17, 2014.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that you reported in a currently supported version of Ubuntu? Please let us know if you do and in which version of Ubuntu as I can't reproduce the issue with gedit 3.28.1 in Ubuntu 18.04.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.
