gedit bracket completion plugin incorrectly does not disable

i turned it on to try it and got a closing bracket when i typed one like:

i disliked this and turned it off and started getting this

geeze! i turned it on again and got this!

most likely this will continue, help me turn this out of control thing off!

Further notes: If you restart gedit the bracket completion is no longer present, even though the plugin is still apparently enabled.
