The description needs more detail - what is the full error message, steps taken, etc. Without it, at best it is guessing that a c compiler is not installed - such as gcc.

this is what camw up in the terminal

Failed to execute child process "/bin/sh ./geany_run_script.sh" (No such

I think if you go into Geany .. Preferences..Terminal, unchecking the "Don't use run script", (may have to check "Execute programs in the VTE" to get the ability to uncheck the other box) - that you'll be able to compile inside Geany. This looks like an issue with Geany or for the Geany users mailing list, not a MATE bug.

I found a solution, go to Preferences..Tools and you will see Terminal: x-terminal-emulator -e "/bin/sh %c", just remove the ": x-terminal-emulator -e /bin/sh %c. It worked for me.

Bug was incorrectly targetted at "Geary" (project) - an e-mail client instead of "geany" - the text editor. Have targeted it at geany (Ubuntu) -- unfortunately I don't have permission to set the Invalid status on the Geary project target.

It seems this issue possibly happens only on MATE for some reason, and unchecking "VTE" is the solution. Not clear why the behaviour is different.

Ubuntu MATE 14.04.2 was not an official Ubuntu Flavor release and is no longer supported.

no longer affects: ubuntu-mate
