Bug Description

On a fresh install of 18.04, switching users fails.

What doesn't work : connect as another user using the top right menu : myuserName>ChangeUser, goes to greeter, select another user, password ok, screen goes blank (violet) with mouse moving, no desktop coming up. Then Ctrl-alt-F2, log into myuserName, desktop comes back.

Upon shutdown, I am warned that the other user session is still opened.

I have a very similar issue with Ubuntu 18.04.1. After a fresh install and creating 4 users, the "switch user" feature does not work at all. When I click on "login as another user", the screen goes blank for ~3 seconds and then comes right back to the same screen without offering to select one of the other users.

Hi.

Unfortunately I still have this bug on full updated Ubuntu 18.04. I created account for my nephew and when I am trying to switch user when I am logged in - it doesn't work. I have to log out first. Very annoying, however still love this distribution :) I will be glad to provide more informations.

Best regards!

On several occasions, when I click on "Switch User" I would be directed to a black screen with a mouse cursor where the mouse cursor may work in a very lagging manner and nothing else seems to work(no keyboard response). To get out of this situation, I needed to manually power off my system and power it up again to boot the system up again. This recovery procedure is bad for my system.

Sometimes this bad situation happens and sometimes I would successfully be directed to the login screen to switch users successfully.

Any idea what is causing this issue or how I can fix this issue?

[Update:] On my next bootup, I re-tried using the "Switch User" button. I got the same black screen and mouse cursor. But this time around, the default Ubuntu screensaver or screen shield appeared ( after several seconds of delay) instead of the background that I had set previously. After pressing any keyboard key, the screen shield goes away and the Login screen appears. I am able to login as myself or as another user.

It was mentioned here that this situation is a duplicate of bug #1766137 and in that report a fixed had already been issued. But I still encounter this issue. There I like to reopen this issue.
