Bug Description
Binary package hint: gdm
gdm-safe-restart used to send the USR1 signal to gdm to cause it to restart after the current user logs out. In Lucid,
it does not work:
# gdm-safe-restart
Not supported
I manage a network of 200+ Ubuntu workstations. I previously used this feature to update gdm without interrupting my customers. Is there an alternate way to do this?

I can confirm the output of the command on Lucid is "Not supported". What is the release used in your last deployment where gdm-safe-restart was supported?
Take a look at this recent commit which shows the commands are removed in current development GNOME: git.gnome. org/browse/ gdm/commit/ ?id=9aace1fa58d 1a4219fdddc4df0 1e0735f78dd306
