sound plays during boot before login selections are ready

In Karmic's default sound scheme, the 'ba-da-bump' sound (the first audio played from the speakers) seems to be a signal to Joe User that "Your attn. is required; please login", but the sound is played before any interaction is possible. An alert (or blind) user can hit the enter key immediately, and it will be ignored until the login screen is actually ready, a few seconds later.

Expected action:
Welcome sound would be played the instant interaction is ready, not before.

Current action:
The Welcome sound is played several seconds before the login choices are ready.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. A new version of GDM is available in both Lucid and Maverick and we are wondering if this is still reproducible in any of those versions, May you please test and give us of feedback about it? Thanks in advance.

No, this is not resolved. The Welcome sound still plays before the user has the ability to actually hit "enter" and log in.

I think of this as more of an Accessibility feature; an ideal to program towards; rather than a bug that exists in a single version of GDM.

Same issue in 10.10. The ba-da-bump plays prior to the login screen being available.

Same issue exists in Alpha 3 for Natty Narwhal. I noticed that Windows 7 also plays the Welcome sound file before the user is actually "welcome," but in my opinion that's no reason to follow their lead.
