Bug Description

Binary package hint: gdm

Like most nomad users of laptops, I often end up switching my computer on in public places. I don't want unexpected sound to be heard. All sounds in the Gnome desktop are easily deactivated, thanks to the "Sounds" configuration item.

However, to disable the drums at GDM startup, you had to go to the "Login screen" configuration item on Jaunty (which wasn't that easy to find for new users), and it is much worse but in Karmic: gdmsetup had been stripped down (which is a good thing) and doesn't show the sound option anymore.

I would vote for simply disabling that sound by default, I can't see any need for it.

Apologies, I marked this as a duplicate of the wrong bug. Bug #437429 appears to be about the sound that plays after login, while this bug report is about the sound that plays before login. I'm marking this as a duplicate of bug #445747.
