Binary package hint: gdm

After upgrading from jaunty to karmic with the new gdm, autologin isn't enabled anymore, while it was enabled previously.

thank you for your bug report, could you look to gdm.conf-custom and gdm.conf what value is set? it works correct for other users

in gdm.conf it looks like it is enabled:

[daemon]
AutomaticLoginEnable=true
AutomaticLogin=wouter

TimedLoginEnable=true
TimedLogin=wouter
TimedLoginDelay=10

The -custom file is pretty much empty.

In reality nothing happens and I have to login manually.

When I add these lines to gdm-conf-custom, it does work:

[daemon]
AutomaticLoginEnable=true
AutomaticLogin=wouter

Apparently the new gdm uses gdm.conf-custom instead of gdm.conf. However the settings should be migrated automatically during upgrade.

Changed in gdm (Ubuntu):
status: Incomplete → New

Are you sure you didn't delete the gdm.conf-custom file manually?

I cannot confirm this bug:

*) Purged GDM 2.26 (including all GDM related files a file search returned)
*) Installed GDM 2.20.10-0ubuntu5, /etc/gdm contained the (empty) gdm.conf-custom
*) Used gdmsetup to enable autologin, gdm.conf-custom contained the relevant information
*) Upgraded to GDM 2.26.1-0ubuntu2 - gdm.conf-custom still was there holding the autologin information

Yes I am sure I didn't delete that file. I enabled autologin by using
the checkbox in the jaunty installer, maybe that makes a difference?
