Bug Description

all my admin options work except when trying to access the gdm setup. there used to be a login-screen setup menu option but looks like gnome got rid of that on latest. now you can change it from the log-in screen but when you click it it changes the username to password feild. i type password and it tells me wrong user name and password. it happens everytime i try to change it. i cant find a package that will add that option to my menu either. using ctrl+alt+F1 i can log into X or anything else without a problem.

thank you for your time and help!

Just a note to say "Me too". There is currently no way to (graphically) change gdm.

Note: The password its asking for when you try to edit it from the login screen is the root password, which in Ubuntu is not set, hence any password will be rejected.

Its still there when compiling from CVS. For some reason, it isn't being included in the gdm package.

i found a way to do it but i had to use xfce to change the gdm. it was in one of the gnome settings i just cant remember what one off hand. ah i think it was gnome control center menu entry in xfce that enabled me to chage it.

Just a me-too. Using gdm in dapper. Package:
gdm 2.13.0.9-0ubuntu5.

Setting the root password and using that crashes gdmsetup.

It appears to crash the whole xserver on my system, which then immediately reboots back into GDM.

I can confirm that gdm-setup is not working, though not exactly in the same manner as described here. Basically, when I run gdmsetup from the gnome menu, the window comes up for half a second and then vanishes.

When I run sudo /usr/sbin/gdmsetup from an xterm, I get a segfault. I use my own password, not the root password. In fact I have not enabled the root account on Dapper.

At the moment, with gdm 2.14.9-0ubuntu1, there is no option in the login screen to configure gdm.
The menu option after logged in does work.
