8.04 ubuntu alternate amd64 image
12" screen, 1400x900 resolution, the characters are cut at the upper and lower border of the box.

Thank you for your bug report. Can you start a stock session which has no user configuration, run xpdyinfo and copy the informations to a comment? Could you also attach Xorg.0.log, it's likely xorg reporting wrong dpi informations
