i have the same probleme whith the progress bar at shutdown
i haven't the begins of the progress bar : just the name of services which shutdown as :

          "preload........[OK]"
           "gnome.........[OK]"

no one [failed]
i have disable network manager 2 weeks ago (manual configuration)

i add 3 empty line in
/etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom after [greeter] and after [chooser]

reboot and now everything is allright
