gdm stops resuming from suspend

Bug Description
To reproduce:
- suspend the machin, resume from suspended state
Expected behaviour
- login screen appears
Actual behaviour:
- login screen doe not appear, no pointer on screen
The keyboard does allow Alt F6 to get into a terminal. From there gdm can be stopped and restarted.
To get the system back gdm has to be restarted twite (once is insufficient)
The problem is not present with the exact same configuration but replacing gdm with lightdm.
