Bug Description

Binary package hint: gdm

I cannot login my system due to the GDM login greeter freezing after a few seconds after a successful boot. This problem seems to have come after the update to gdm --version 2.18.1. The only way I am able to login to my system is by booting in recovery mode, logging in as root and starting gdm. This method works fine. This is a Feisty system with xubuntu-desktop installed with all current updates.

Logs follow:

After many days, It seems that I have solved the problem. I took many steps:

1) Booted in single-user mode (recovery)

2) Removed two scripts from being used in runlevel 2 using sysv-rc-conf tool:

  a. wacom-tools

  b. recently installed irda-tools

3) telinit into runlevel 2.

and no more freezes.
