gdm: new changes from Debian require merging

Bug Description

New changes from Debian require merging into Ubuntu.

Some, if not all, of this work has been done automatically;
however the changes should be reviewed before signing and
uploading.

The new source package, along with various patches to aid
your review are available at:

        http://people.ubuntu.com/~scott/ongoing-merge/gdm/

Yes, the merge is still pending for gdm. I'm not sure if we should try to merge
(the debian package as a lot of changes mixed in its diff.gz with no documentation)
or start to make a clean ubuntu package for it ... anybody has an advice on this ?

  * Merged changes with the debian package (Hoary: #3444).
