Bug Description

Ristretto doesn't open various picture formats, but is bound to be the primary viewer for these. There are:

* tiff: runs 100% CPU, but never opens the picture. For small ones with 8 bit colours it works, but not for pictures with more than 8 bit per colour. As it doesn't work for huge pictures with file sizes greater than 50 MiByte.
* jpeg: some allowed, but seldom used formats make ristretto hang.
* most RAW formats, notably Sony ARW ristretto claims to be capable to open, but doing so will make the application hang forever.

Hi,

Thanks for your bug report. Could you provide some sample files that ristretto fails to open? I'd like to try to reproduce with the latest release.

Indeed, it doesn't work in ristretto, nor in eog (eog is a bit more verbose though: Failed to load TIFF image: libtiff-pixbuf: TIFF directory is missing required "ImageLength" field).

I'm afraid this is a gdk-pixbuf issue.

Changed in ristretto (Ubuntu):
importance: Medium → Low
status: Incomplete → Triaged

(I keep the ristretto task, as ristretto could be a bit more verbose about the failure. ;-)

Ristretto 0.3.5 adds an infobar when the file fails to load, I'll look into updating the precise package later.
