Bug Description

I just upgraded Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.4 and beside the nice visual improvements, I could see that gdesklets is not working normally. It is not showing the applets until you click them. There is an arrow on the lower right side which enables you to resize the applet, but the content of the applet is visible only when the user clicks on it.

See it in this screenshot:

I have exactly the same problem since I have installed the new ubuntu 11.04.

I switched to the application called Screenlets and this one works just fine for what I use: weather & calendar.

Have this in mind for weather: "ClearWeather" widget is the right one to use (works quite fine); the one called "FreemeteoWeather" blocks Screenlets (at least in my Ubuntu 11.4).

A fix for this problem has been added to the 0.3x branch (rev. #180). Thanks to the Screenlets team ;).
It should be released with the upcoming 0.36.4.

Anyway.... ubuntu is still shipping gDesklets 0.36.1 (from November 2008)...

Howdy.
Haven't you considered releasing patched version in downloads? About 3 months have passed since the release of the Ubuntu 11.04, which introduced this annoying bug (which by all means makes gdesklets unusable). I believe, 0.36.4 has a long way to come. Can't you make some minor version of 0.36.3 with a fix, for a sake of Ubuntu 11.04 users?

I agree that this makes our software unusable. But I don't think Ubuntu will have an official release regardless of what we do (see bug #782412 - AFAIK they haven't even released 0.36.3). If a user (or an Ubuntu dev) wishes to compile from source, he may grab the latest development version from bzr or just the patch. Perhaps Maxin could make a bleeding-edge release of the PPA...

Well... despite this all: has anyone ever tried this patch with Ubuntu 11.04 and Unity ?

Hi,

I can perform the below listed activities:
  1. Build the latest gdesklets in Ubuntu 11.4
  2. Update the gdesklets PPA for Ubuntu 11.4

Best Regards,
Maxin

Hmmm.... a "bleeding edge" release sounds nice... but with only a few commits to the devel branch every few month.. ?!
IMHO we should check if this patch really works for gDesklets on ubuntu and then pack up 0.36.4 (release often... ;) ).

Just my 5 cents.

Speaking about the patch, I really can't see it =) Could you point me to its location, or, better, attach it to the ticket?
Would be really nice, since probably bleeding edge release is not coming out yet.
