On a clean installation of Kubuntu 14.04, gdebi-kde has suddenly stopped working.

This sounds like it is likely the same issue as bug 1304143. Could you please try to start gdebi-kde from at terminal to see whether you get the same error message?

Yes. It looks like the same issue. Here's my terminal output.
