package gconf2-common 3.2.6-3ubuntu7 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 128 crashes at 51% on everything

ubuntu gui software package installer crashes at 51% every time been doing this consistently since ubuntu root install will not allow complete of any install tasks (steam,chrome,inkwell,dropbox)to name a few i have tried
