Bug Description

after running the upgrade script errors were reported.
Logon doesn't complete. Used to log me right out.
I did apt-get upgrade/update and now log on leads to an empty screen.

I have had this happen too, and now my machine is in an "unstable state," per what the updater said.

I received this error during an upgrade from 15.10 and now the install has hung.

I'm getting this error as well during the installation of libgtk-3-0 (amd64)

I fixed the issue by exiting all my open applications, which were Firefox and the file manager - I don't know which of these caused the problem.
