Bug Description

Since the change to multiarch, building upstream gcc is broken on Debian and Ubuntu 11.10. There are a load of reports at bugs.debian.org and a proposed patch from Matthias Klose over at gcc-patches. However, the former are not sorted out and the latter is not applied (yet).

How to reproduce: check out gcc from svn, try to build according to documentation.
Result:
[...]
In file included from /usr/include/stdio.h:28:0,
                 from /home/daniel/svn/gcc-4.6/libgcc/../gcc/tsystem.h:87,
                 from /home/daniel/svn/gcc-4.6/libgcc/../gcc/libgcc2.c:29:
/usr/include/features.h:323:26: fatal error: bits/predefs.h: No such file or directory

On my system, the file is here:
  /usr/include/i386-linux-gnu/bits/predefs.h

Reports at Debian (I got lost trying to sort out which one is THE report):
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=644986
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=637232
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=639214
  [...]

Multiarch patch from Debain Maintainer (maybe someone could push this?):

Thinking I switched from Gentoo to Ubuntu hoping to avoid this constant struggle uphill ... ha!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/995590/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
