Bug Description

Binary package hint: gcc-3.3

IBM JDK 1.x need libstdc++5 in order to get installed in the system. As the library is not available in the PowerPC architecture it is impossible to get this working propertly.

This has been reported in launchpad as: 304863

Debian has a report too: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=348725

It is not fixed for lenny/sid, and thus seems to be failing for Ubuntu Hardy and Intrepid (I confirm that this is the case in intrepid).

A workaround for PowerPC:

1. Make a symlink to the library from version 6 to 5
1. Install the debian package (you MUST ujse the -force-all flag for dpkg): http://packages.debian.org/etch/powerpc/libstdc++5/download
2. Run IBM java and see it working
3. use aptitude to solve the dependency problem created by the forced install
4. voila: IT WORKS!

It is just a workaround. It may screw up your system, so please don't do it if you do not understand what it does!

Won't fix this. Please feel free to reopen with a patch attached to build this package out of the gcc-3.3 package.
