After multiple attempts to get the upgrade to work from 7.10 to 8.04 and finally getting it only to run into a hanging update manager, I formatted the harddrive and started with a fresh install. I have been able to reinstall most of the environment I had for Ruby development; however, I do continue to get this errors (return code 2) at the end of lots of package installs thru Synaptic.
