[gallery] BQ E4.5 (r24): Gallery app is showing thumbnails of videos without any indication of content

The Gallery-->Photos is showing for videos no indication about the content. It could present, for example, at least the date and time from the filename of the video. Without this it is impossible to pick-up the desired video. See attachment.

I am also affected by this issue on bq Aquaris E4.5. (How do you use r25 release? The latest stable release is r24)

@alecu: almost certainly not.

The latest updates contain gstreamer 1.5.2, which appears to be badly broken. gst_init() causes an assertion failure inside gstreamer (at least on the desktop), meaning that *no* thumbnailing of any video or audio file is possible. (It also means that we can no longer land any fixes to the thumbnailer in Jenkins, because our tests (correctly) fail.

If the above problem was caused with an image that still uses 1.4.5, then it's almost certainly also a gstreamer problem. It hangs, produces black thumbnails, or errors out at random.

There isn't a lot the thumbnailer can do about this :-(

BTW, let's not lose focus here. The original bug is about the fact that, other than the thumbnail, there is no indication whatsoever as to the identity of the video. No filename, no date/time. I've been annoyed by this in the past too. In particular, when taking a bunch of test videos, I just have the phone sitting somewhere and I hit the record button a few times. When it comes to figuring out which video I'm dealing with, I don't get anything. What I see are five or six very similar thumbnails, with no way to get more info about a particular video.

Hopefully the thumbnailer bug can be fixed.

Commenting on the desire to have dates or filenames - I wouldn't show them by default in the UI. Instead long pressing should take the user into an edit mode, where it's possible to select one or several thumbnails, and perform actions on them (delete etc). We should add "Details" as one of those actions, which would then display a dialog showing more information - things like resolution, duration, file size, and file path.

Note that the above "Details" action should only appear when one item is selected in edit mode. If multiple items are selected, it should disappear form the header.

There is new design ready for the edit mode which should land in SDK 1.3 soon-ish
