Binary package hint: fvwm-crystal

Hi,

  I have loaded Ubuntu 10.10 as a command line system on a Dell Optiplex GX110.
After looking at several window managers, I liked the way that the fvwm-crystal
looked on the desktop. So I followed the fvwm-crystal 3.0.6 installation
procedures described at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FVWM-Crystal.
Unfortunately, I did not see any applications within the Menu.

  After investigating the output of the startx program, I found syntax errors
within the python script /usr/local/bin/fvwm-crystal.apps . They are related to
using a variable 'with' which is a reserved word. I changed this variable name
to 'within' and the script now works. I have this script available for you.

Hi Dominique,

  Sure thing. I have attached the modified and original files to this
email. The file that I have modified is 'fvwm-crystal.apps'. The original
file is 'fvwm-crystal.apps.bak'.

I done 2 new versions of FVWM-Crystal recently. They include both bugfixes and exiting new functions.

The dependencies have changed a bit, fvwm-2.6.5 is required, Thunar has been added as desktop manager, in this case, FVWM-Crystal will manage the icons. The Fullscreen function has been rewrited and extended, in order to provide a feature similar to the Amiga application stack and work togueter with the traditional X multiple desktop pages. The desktop geometry is unified for all recipes with a common preference (that can be changed on the fly from the menu). And more.

3.2.0 is out.

It is a main features update with the habitual bug fixes as well. It is a stable and well consistant release.

The Thunar icon manager have been almost fully rewritten and renamed to FVWM-Crystal desktop manager. It now provide the icon in 3 groups: Home, the XDG user directories and the partitions, and have its own preferences system. It support any file managers and custom commands.

Some functions, like the left click menu, have been made available on all recipes via the preferences.

Also, Kenneth Lester gave me the permission to use his 2 pictures icons under the GPL, and some of them are introduced with 3.2.0 (The FVWM-Crystal desktop manager only use them.)
