Bug Description

Hi,

There seem to be a problem with the latest release of fuse-utils and libfuse2 version 2.8.1-1.1ubuntu3.1 but not with the previous one 2.8.1-1.1ubuntu2.2, maybe related to the bug 482163, but not sure because it is not only in automount mode, but even in manual superuser mode.

I have two NTFS Sata partitions, both impossible to mount with 3.1 (even in read only), no way :
    sudo /sbin/mount.ntfs-3g /dev/sda2 /mnt/C -o ro,debug
returns exit code 21 : Unclassified FUSE error.
The debug option displays nothing at all, nothing appears in any log (dmesg... nothing at all).

I tested my partitions with ntfs-3g.probe --readwrite : everything is all right, file system checks also... So clearly, this is not a NTFS problem.

The same mount works well with the previous version of both libfuse2 and fuse-utils 2.8.1-1.1ubuntu2.2. So I had to reinstall them to get back my partitions and everything woks well again.

Best regards,
Pierre

Same symptom, and same work-around worked for me. Thanks Pierre.

For more debugging details, see my request for help at this ubuntu forum post where I did a bunch of debugging before finding this launchpad bug. For me, the problem manifested as a failure to mount my windows XP partition during boot, as well as manually after booting.

Thanks to stdrogo for pointing me at this bug, and the work-around!

Hi, Same bug here and same workaround, many Ubuntu users are affected too in the French Ubuntu forum.

Hi,

I am on lucid, and have the same problem with -ubuntu3.1, but already -ubuntu3 is working,
so it's definitely something brought into only by the very last update.

I'm not sure how to mark this in launchpad, but this also affects os-prober and thus update-grub2. Indeed, update-grub2 relies on os-prober to find whether there's a Windows partition to add to the Grub menu. However, because it uses os-prober and therefore os-prober can't mount some NTFS partitions (not all apparently), Windows may sometimes disappear from the boot menu in dual-boot systems.

This bug is still New/Undecided/Unassigned. How can we get it assigned? while we've got a work around, I would like to be able to update libfuse/fuseutils someday.

what's the next step?

Thanks,

thespian

I have the same problem and another one that might be related ---> https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sshfs-fuse/+question/148023
(the question was not posted by me, and I don't know anything about the iPhone sync, but I do have the sshfs-problem described there)
