Just happened to me too, symptoms are exactly as the posts above.
It may or may not be relevant that the DVD-RW drive in my laptop popped open while it was busy mounting the disk. It reported "Unable to mount" on the desktop, after which I closed the drive door again. It mounted and autoplayed the DVD movie in Totem. I closed Totem and am now stuck with the uninterruptible process.
Hardware is a Thinkpad Z60m with DVD Multi recorder drive thing
