1 - The bug in jaunty IS specific to ext4, and has existed since jaunty betas. Looks like in the end this bug has been "hijacked" by a related but more critical bug, so I'm not complaining just want to make sure we don't overlook that forever.
2 - I'd like to echo what others have said about not having any way to fsck root w/o either a) boot from a different media or b) doing a normal boot and praying for the best, is a very bad thing.
