Font problems with pdf files

Bug Description

Since freetype 2.3.0 there are a lot of pdf files that are broken with poppler (evince).
With freetype >= 2.3.0 fonts are not rendered at all in such pdf files. I think the problem is only with Type 1C (CID) Embedded Subset fonts.

The upstream comments seems to indicate that's a duplicate of libcairo bug #116236, there is still some buggy example though
