Bug Description

Look at this screenshot:
http://neartalk.com/ss/2016-02-11_001_1841x870.png

After launching the File-Opening dialog, if you try to navigate to any file system location, the entire application freezes and you have to manually kill the java process to close the frozen application.

This bug is important to me, because Debian has removed freemind, so now, the only application in the Ubuntu 16.04 that can read the mind maps I've been creating since Ubuntu 7.04 is freeplane.

Please confirm and mark with high importance.

hi,

sorry for the long delay (I am the freeplane package author but unfortunately, I do not receive
notification emails for launchpad bugs automatically - can someone tell me how to configure this?).

Here is most likely your fix:
https://sourceforge.net/p/freeplane/discussion/758437/thread/8a5d6e54/#13bc/4a4e/4ee1/ef3b/efb9

You can probably also just switch to another Look&Feel (Tools->Prefs->Appearance).

(other programs are probably affected, too:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openjdk-8/+bug/1510009)

Please tell us whether this works for you.

Thanks and Best Regards,
Felix

I'm not sure how you, as a package author, can set up automatic notifications; hopefully someone else will assist.

I can confirm that your workaround, of changing the appearance to something other than default, did solve this issue for me.

Perhaps, bare-minimum this bug could be addressed (in code) by making "Nimbus" the default theme (which looks awesome to me).

The "Metal" theme is also very nice. Not as fancy as Nimbus, but probably a better choice for default. I especially like the file navigation dialogs on "Metal" and "Nimbus".
