Most likely, the joke would be moved to fortunes-off package. I re-titled the report accordingly.

Note: Joke in question is in datfiles/riddles.

summary: - Remove this trash racist joke from the used database

There is also an entry titled "You now have Asian Flu." which is particularly jarring since 2020.

I agree that this is racist and should be either removed or amended. Specifically, it is racist for referring to "Asian flu", which apparently this is not the only instance of in this package. If anyone is suggesting that it is racist for referencing Indians or Sikhs (who are largely but not exclusively Indian), I would disagree; mere reference to ethnicity or religion, or using the words in a tongue twister based on their phonological characterisics, does not make something racist or bigoted.

But as far as moving this to fortunes-off, see LP: #1996682 where I have just removed that package wholesale as it in an irredeemable mess inconsistent with Ubuntu values and should not be distributed at all.

So this bug is ripe for someone to patch out the references to "Asian flu".

importance: Undecided → High
status: New → Triaged

The original issue raised seems to be for the answer, rather than the question.
I fail to understand that sentiment.
Invoking Indians in a joke seems above board.

"Particularly jarring" foregoes an explanation too.

"Asian flu" references the H2N2 virus pandemic of 1957–1958.
Up until the WHO attempted to name "coronavirus" (SARS-CoV-2) "2019-nCoV acute respiratory disease", only to fail again with "COVID-19", the prevailing paradigm was to name outbreaks affecting greater regions by the name of the place they were first found.

Sort of like how some software bugs have logos now, and imagery is OK for the time being.

Deflation of Ubuntu values fixed at #1996682 with nowhere to hide the jokes behind.
