Bug Description

printer:
samsung clp-320N over TCP/IP (IPv4), both LPD and IPP possible
The clp-315 and the clp 325 driver both work perfectly on this printer
the printer is mechanically single sided
duplex printing is done in software/firmware
the print protocol is zjstream
used packets: foomatic/foo2qpdl, cups, system-config-printer

ubuntu 10.04 cups and the clp-315 driver ( foo2qpdl ) allowed me to print duplex (=double-sided)
ubuntu 12.04 cups or the clp-315 driver ( foo2qpdl ) prevent duplex printing

"double-sided (long edge)" is a selectable option but it doesn't "stick"
after dialogue confirmation it jumps back to "single-sided"
giving the impression that cups (or foomatic) does not accept the chosen option.
(and indeed it shows....no duplex printing)

also tried the (totally different) driver of the manufacturer, again no duplex printing
so I suspect CUPS to be the culprit.

both tested ubuntu drivers are from the respective standard ubuntu repositories
the standard system-config-printer of the respective distros were used

I really want to nail this bug...but I think I might need some help from a person more knowledged than I am

read that as: "I would really like to be able to nail this bug but I'm too much of a retard to be able to code a patch"

Can you follow the instructions of the sections "CUPS error_log" and "Capturing print job data" on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems. Thanks.

Changed in system-config-printer (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Medium
status: New → Incomplete
affects: system-config-printer (Ubuntu) → foomatic-filters (Ubuntu)
summary: - [system-config-printer] duplex option for CLP-3xx printers not working
+ Duplex option for CLP-3xx printers not working

I can partly follow that...this is the result:

my CUPS-error log is activated by default.
I select double sided printing
CUPS-refuses to honour my selection
I start to print
I get perfect single sided printouts

CUPS-error log: no errors
My problem: still single-sided

Capturing print job data until the error shows up is not very a friendly thing to ask from me
The kind of problem I have prevents errors to show up in the log.
I would be capturing for eternity....killing lots of trees in the meantime :-)

I dont know if I was very clear in the beginning:
CUPS refuses to let me select an option it persumes not available to that printer
Whereas in the 10.04 version the option did work.

I have uploaded a modified foomatic-filters package to my PPA now. Please add my PPA to your system as described on

https://launchpad.net/~till-kamppeter/+archive/ppa

in the section "Adding this PPA to your system" and then install the new foomatic-filters package, preferably by simply doing a full system update. The foomatic-filters version must be 4.0.15-0ubuntu1.1~ppa1 then.

Does this version solve your problem?
