Bug Description
Binary package hint: foomatic-db
Since installing Karmic alpha-4 no more support for Samsung ML-1640 laser printer (USB). It was present in Jaunty, but - alas - no more. Only way to fix was to install the proprietary driver from Samsung, which is very tedious.

Do you have the "splix" package installed ("dpkg -l | grep splix")?
Does the file
/usr/share/ ppd/splix/ samsung/ ml1640. ppd
exist on your system?
