Bug Description

After upgrading to 12.04 on 4/23 from 11.10 my HP 1000 printer started having issues.

1. The first bug was that text (ghostscript/ps) generated files looked like they had reduced resolution with very poor resolution.

2. After install/purge/reinstall cycle the system started installing the firmware then sticking in a loop trying to open/close/reload firmware to the point of crashing a few of the helper programs (I assume some race condition). After some googling it tryed to use the HP solution by removing printer-driver-foo2zjs and all is well.

Here is a syslog entry for the loop, there was a few ways of producing depending on what packages where installed.

Apr 24 08:30:34 hostname /usr/sbin/hplj1000: foo2zjs: HP LaserJet 1000 firmware already loaded into /dev/usb/lp0
Apr 24 08:30:34 hostname udev-configure-printer: add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.1/usb6/6-2/6-2:1.0/usb/lp0

and.

There may be two bugs here

1. Resolution issues with printer-driver-foo2zjs. I don't think there was the driver reload issue after the upgrade.

2. The system-config-printer-udev package may be trying to load the firmware as well (should foo2zjs conflict, or vice versa?) but I suspect it is the foo2zjs driver.

This machine had has been upgraded from a clean install of 11.10.

User profile was cleaned before update (.config, .local .gnome* .gconf* etc.)
