The printer works perfectly in Microsoft Windows XP (tested already, so no hardware malfunction...)
Printer gets its jobs, but nothing comes out from it. It seems that the driver or what ever sends the correct information somewhere but not to printer.

I have followed the problem with HP LaserJet for several months now. I think
it is typical for a great many problems in Ubuntu.
The business idea puts the requirement of open source before functionality.
It is my opinion that users really do not care if the applications are open
or not, as long as they work and are without snags. There are a great number
of excellent Linux based applications, (AVG free anti virus, Skype, Adobe
Reader just to mention a few) that all are designed to work under Linux, but
they are all proprietary.
I think Ubuntu and other Linux developers never will get off the ground if
they stick to openness before functionality.
I for one gave up Ubuntu and returned to MSWin, trying to get my HP LaserJet
1018 and in particular the antivirus Clam TK to work. I wasted so much time
on e-mailing small problems, already solved by others than Ubuntu.
My recommendation is to get the priorities in a different order with
functionality first. Include the not open applications in a special list and
let the user decide which to use.
