Bug Description

Binary package hint: fontforge

When using fontforge 20080429 on Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex, after using Auto Kern to generate kern pairs for a font, I am unable to get the KDE Font Viewer and OpenOffice Writer to recognize the new kern pairs. Without the ability to generate kern pairs, the ability to produce a professional looking font is very limited.

After speaking with the FontForge developers, I have learned that KDE Font Viewer will not recognize kerns. OpenOffice, however, will recognize kerns when the "old style kerning" option is used.

Problem resolved: OpenOffice 2.4 simply doesn't support GPOS kerning; KDE Font Viewer doesn't support kerns.
