Bug Description

After upgrading from dapper to edgy, my fonts look different in some applications which are not Gnome.
Between gnome applcations (or GTK+ in general) and other applications (Qt, web page body in epiphany or firefox...), fonts are different even if I select the same font, same size. They are nice in Gnome applications but look bolder, wider and blurrier in the other apps.

I tried to remove ~/.fonts.conf and to purge and reinstall completely fontconfig and fontconfig-config. It did not help.

I attached a screenshot of a qtconfig and the gnome font config app where I selected the exact same font and where it looks different in the two sample texts...

Here is the screenshot.

I forgot : I am using "best rendering" in gnome (I have a CRT monitor).

Perhaps this is the same as bug 63403 (?).
