Bug Description

Simplified Chinese characters like “复” and “门” are displayed in their variant (Japanese) forms.

This issue is caused by the default font configuration (fontconfig) in Ubuntu, where the language priority in the configuration file places Noto Sans CJK JP (marked in red) before Noto Sans CJK SC (marked in an oval). As a result, the system prioritizes the JP font when rendering text.

Solution: Modify the configuration file /etc/fonts/conf.d/64-language-selector-prefer.conf to adjust the priority.

This bug still exists on Ubuntu 24.0.2

There is also another configuration issue, please refer to this post: https://github.com/canonical/Ubuntu-Sans-fonts/issues/117 (Problem with handling Chinese punctuation, such as enumeration comma(、) and full stop(。).)

Thanks you!
