I attach the FG-logo which appears in the Windows Version and previous Ubuntu-Version. An empty space looks really sad. ;-)

It seems actually have got missing in the packaging...

In the package of HardyHeron it was to be found in the Flightgear 1.0.0-1ubuntu1

as contained in the subfile data.tar.gz with install directory usr/share/pixmaps/flightgear.xpm

The current Flight Gear package comes directly from Debian with no Ubuntu modifications - http://qa.debian.org/developer.php?<email address hidden> - so contributing directly there could be useful. For example join the Debian FlightGear packagers at https://alioth.debian.org/projects/pkg-fgfs/ to help Ove. It seems Flight Gear doesn't have active maintenance at the moment, since 2.6.0 has been removed from the next Debian release because of an unfixed bug and 2.8.0 is not packaged.

For the icon problem, it should be at least now slightly better also in 12.04, since Unity & bamf got fixes that no "empty" icon is had anymore, instead a question mark. Not too pretty either though :)

Well, thanks a lot for the detailled information.

I certainly will not join the packaging team for a missing icon.

I rather get the impression that the upstream-project itself (flightgear.org) doesn't establish bugfixes for lower versions than the current.

The project itself had a hardware donation a while ago:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1w5iNsorwRI (8 Monitors/ 4 graphics-cards) [6m55s] 10/2010

This setup is currently only possible with a distribution from redmond (non-free). So I actually can not blame them, if they are not interested to push it any further on Linux... It's anyway not so much for playing than rather for simulation.

I had fixed this tiny bug locally, which is not such a big thing... on a Kubuntu-system

Partially fixed in 3.0.0 (Trusty): the Dash entry now has an icon, but the running program doesn't, as openscenegraph doesn't provide a way to set one; this has long been known upstream (http://forum.openscenegraph.org/viewtopic.php?t=1789; the suggested fix there doesn't work), but is not yet fixed.

I'm marking this fixed because the original issue was fixed, and the other issue is an upstream one.
