the problem wasnt here in edgy. anyway, i don think feisty can go on any desktop out there with that bug, i mean, imagine a normal user that uses konqueror, and everytime he closes a homepage with a flash video, konqueror freezes

I can reproduce this in edgy, with the KDE 3.5.6 packages from jriddell.
It seems not to happen when closing the tab with the close-tab-button.

Same thing here, happens randomly with mostly video flash pages like youtube. It happens from just going to a different page from a bookmark, or from closing the tab, probably some other scenarios too. It freezes konqueror so you can't use it, but by killing nspluginviewer konqueror continues on to the page you were going to or closes the tab and works normally.

Confirmed here too. It happens randomly. Tested with latest version of konqueror and flashplugin-nonfree. 3.5.6-0ubuntu17 and 9.0.31.0.2ubuntu1 respectively.

Confirmed this from Edgy and Feisty.

As Sarah Hobbs mentioned, this might be a problem with the flash plugin.
The same lockup occurs from within Firefox.

Assign this report to flashplugin-nonfree package, since it seems the cause of the problem

In my expirence, it not only freezes konqueror, but it causes the entire system to become unresponsive and uses 100% cpu. It may be flash's fault, but we should make sure that a program like flash cannot hog the entire system like that.

confirmed here: both in firefox and konqueror.
on Kubuntu 7.04 with flash9.

i did read that zack (of KDE and Qt fame) is working on a shell over these buggy/binary/close-source/proprietary plugins so they can no long crash their host apps. you can read it yourself here:

confirmed here also, 7.04herd5, fully patched as of today (29 May 07) and this also happens on my home computer (7.04 final) and also both with Firefox and Konqueror, and also randomly. Here is the site that finally made me look to report it (this one was with Firefox):

This is a Gutsy issue, so you wouldn't have seen it in Feisty.

get the same thing here, using 7.04 with all the current patches, though i find it happens more often with firefox than konqueror, and mainly on sites like youtube or myspace (which my wife uses to keep track of friends)

well then I am having similar issues. when I try and go to another tab, firefox freezes. This only happens when i'm watching video playback through youtube or any other flash video website. That was the closest bug I could find.

I think that pretty much covers anything you need to know....
Let me know if something looks fishy, or if you know of any similar bugs. Someone just emailed me and said it was a gutsy issue..... but somehow I am experiencing firefox freezing, only when I try and watch videos...

I'm a newbie to linux, so i really don't know how everything works.

Thanks.

Could anyone confirm this still exists using Jaunty Jackalope, 9.04 development version. It is using Firefox 3.0.7 as of 2009-03-05. I attempted to reproduce this using a P3, 866MHz cpu with 512MB ram. I could not reproduce this bug.

The bug should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Jaunty Jackalope. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. Thanks in advance.
