I have this exact same problem with my 32 bit ubuntu 10.04 system. Youtube videos stutter if i switch to full screen and the audio becomes out of sync.

Changed in flashplugin-nonfree (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed

Out of curiosity I turned off Compiz by setting visual effects to none and the problem goes away.

Is it the new flash plugin interacting badly with compiz or the other way round I wonder?

The new preview 64 bit plugin cures this problem.
