Bug Description

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

# lsb_release -rd
        Description: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
        Release: 10.04

While upgrading from 8.04 to 10.04, the following error messages were shown:

01. ### Could not install '/var/cache/apt/archives/flashplugin-nonfree_10.1.53.64ubuntu0.10.04.1_i386.deb' ###
The upgrade will continue but the '/var/cache/apt/archives/flashplugin-nonfree_10.1.53.64ubuntu0.10.04.1_i386.deb' package may not be in a working state. Please consider submitting a bug report about it.

there is no script in the new version of the package - giving up

02. ### Could not install '/var/cache/apt/archives/flashplugin-installer_10.1.53.64ubuntu0.10.04.1_i386.deb' ###
The upgrade will continue but the '/var/cache/apt/archives/flashplugin-installer_10.1.53.64ubuntu0.10.04.1_i386.deb' package may not be in a working state. Please consider submitting a bug report about it.

conflicting packages - not installing flashplugin-installer

At the end, the upgrade halted abruptly!!! The system can be re-booted into 10.04 but flashplugin-nonfree has been a problem since.

The following 3 commands have been used to "remove" the flashplugin-nonfree (10.0.1.218+really9.0.277.0ubuntu1) which was installed while using 8.04.

        # rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/flashplugin-nonfree.prerm
        # dpkg --remove --force-remove-reinstreq flashplugin-nonfree
        # dpkg --purge --force-remove-reinstreq flashplugin-nonfree

After that, flashplugin-nonfree version 10.1.53.64ubuntu0.10.04.1 has been installed using the apt-get command as sho wn below:

        # apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

However, it seems that the installation has failed although no error was displayed while running the above commands. Video clips from youtube.com cannot be played for the time being.

yow

I started this (new) bug report because I thought the problem I was facing was different from that reported by other users, such as the one reported by Paul Sladen, i.e. Bug #429841.

I now reply to this thread just to report my latest findings and hence verify that the bug I had was in fact identical to Bug #429841. Actually, I'm not 100% but fairly certain of what I just said because I only realised the Flashplugin-nonfree is actually working on all my three web browsers under Lucid sometime after I reported the bug. If my guess is correct, I think it was not working before my report was caused by the NOScript plugin which I had forgotten about at the time.

After all, the solution suggested by Emanuel Greisen in the above bug report has solved my problem without me realising it.

Sorry and thanks again for your help. Special thank goes to Emanuel Greisen :)
