Bug Description

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

If you install the flashplugin-nonfree package and then remove it in order to use Gnash, Firefox reports that there is no Flash plugin and requests you to install it, but this issue is not fixed even if you instruct Firefox to reinstall Gnash. This in turn requires that you setup Gnash on Firefox manually.

Here is a workaround for all you hardy / firefox-3.0b4 users. This will also work with other versions of firefox. Just change the destination directory.
The problem is that firefox is using "/usr/lib/firefox-3.0b4" while gnash is installing to "/usr/lib/firefox". I am sure once hardy is released firefox will again use "/usr/lib/firefox".

NOTE: Also remove any other files with "flash" in the name from the "/usr/lib/firefox-3.0b4/plugins" before running the command below to remove any previous installs of Adobe flash.

sudo cp /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/lib/firefox-3.0b4/plugins/

Good Luck and happy youtubing

/usr/lib/firefox/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so is a symbolic link to /etc/alternatives/firefox-flashplugin. So an alternative solution is

sudo ln -s /etc/alternatives/firefox-flashplugin /usr/lib/firefox-3.0b4/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so

But this is no fix, just another hack in the wall

You also can move to Gnash by using Galternatives and then selecting the alternative for Flash in xulflash(found at the end of the list). So it seems that this issue is fixed.
