Changed this to flash-kernel as it was discovered to be the cause of the failure.

During upgrade, flash-kernel will fail if the image has a previously unused u-boot partition unless the following conditions exist:
a) The partition contains uImage, uInitrd, and boot.scr. These can be created with "touch <filename>".
b) File /etc/flash-kernel.conf exists with both UBOOT_PART= and ROOT= are defined to existing partitions.
c) /boot/boot.script exists

affects: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) → flash-kernel (Ubuntu)

note that this bug is on a babbage board (imx51) and teh log shows it tries to install an omap image, i'm not sure whats going on there but this doesnt look like either a flash-kernel nor initramfs-tools bug, the reason why the omap kernel is being installed on an imx51 platform would be the most intresting bit here.

No, this was actually on a beagle board (omap) not on a babbage (imx51). Original post was incorrect due to low caffeine levels, and has since been updated to reflect the correct system.

This should be fixed now with the nand fix in the kernel (bug 608266). Will test to confirm.
