Bug Description

As the summary says, only gedit is an option from the open menu. I have to manually type "/usr/bin/libreoffice" to the "Other..." option to actually open the file.

This may be solved by upgrading to a newer version of Firefox because I tried to recreate your bug and was not able. I have Firefox 19 though so you may want to just upgrade and it will choose libraoffice.

Yep, tested this again and Libreoffice correctly opens the document from Firefox 19. I don't know which version actually fixed the issue, but this bug report can probably be closed now.

Hello,
I am experiencing the same issue right now with Firefox 23, but I am sure it was working fine one or two firefox updates earlier...
I have noticed also that Firefox tries to open .doc files with gedit, but .docx file are associated correctly with Libreoffice and work fine.

Lazy and anyone else affected,

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. This bug was reported some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu and Firefox since that time.

Ubuntu 12.04 (precise) reached end-of-life on April 28, 2017.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that was reported in a currently supported version of Ubuntu?

Please let us know if you do otherwise this bug report will expire in approximately 60 days time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.
