Something is broken.

All I've ever done is report bugs. Between 23 Jan and 26 Feb I
received 14 messages regarding three bugs I reported. Since 5 Mar I've
received 1 message related to one of these bugs and *95* messages
regarding bugs I didn't report and am not subscribed to.

Actually, launchpad is doing it's job correctly.

Here's what's going on: At one point in time you were subscribed to a bug in firefox. You received notifications on changes to that bug. Then, it was marked a duplicate of another, master bug, bug 72018. To keep you updated on what's going on with that bug, you were subscribed to that bug as well, since that's now where the firefox problem is being worked on. All of the emails you're getting now are notifications of other bugs that are duplicates of that master bug, bug 72018.

If you wish to stop getting all of these messages, go to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/72018 and click unsubscribe in the left panel. Doing this will keep you from getting all of these emails, but will also not inform you when the bug's status changes or the bug is discussed by developers.

When you have massive bugs like this that sprawl across launchpad, a lot of people get sucked into this one bug and then continue to get update reports. A possible solution might be for launchpad to not send notifications of duplicate bugs to people who were subscribed to a bug by having theirs be marked a duplicate. I might file that request right now...

Well that's fairly annoying. Subscriptions should be carried over to the master bug when a person is subscribed to a dupe.

That is current behavior.

All of the dupe notifications are occurring _because_ people are notified to the master bug, in this case bug 72018. If they were just subscribed to the smaller duplicate bug, then they would never be informed of further discussion or status changes to the bug since developers will only be looking at master bugs to fix problems.

I just filed bug 91212 about this scenario, describing the method I propose to fix this problem.
