Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Version 2.0.0.1. Has happened seemingly randomly, unable to consistently reproduce. Hadn't had many crash problems until today, where it's happened twice so far. The first time, I was idle with Firefox open, came back and it had crashed. The second time (this time), I was watching a video on YouTube. I closed the browser, and then realised I had somewhere else to go, so I attempted to re-open Firefox but was told it was already running. Then I got the crash error message.

Thank you for the bug report. Could you please install the firefox-dbg package and try to obtain a backtrace (or crash report) by following the instructions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Which flash package do you have installed?
Which Java package do you have installed?
Which firefox extensions do you have installed?

gdb-firefox.log is attached (not sure it contains anything useful, but I followed the instructions)

I have Flash 9 installed (not sure if you need more information than that; if so, please let me know how to obtain it exactly).

Not sure which Java package installed (how do I find out?).

FIrefox extensions: Adblock Plus 0.7.2.4, deskCut 0.5.0.5, Download Statusbar 0.9.4.5.1, FarkIt 2.0, Farky 1.1.2, FireFTP 0.94.6, and Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer 0.84.

Perhaps this is something the developers can work on. When Internet Explorer crashes in Windows, it sends a bug report to Microsoft (it asks, first) with all the necessary information. I don't have to jump through hoops.

Sorry to have bothered you; I won't bother reporting further issues. Thanks.

Kevin,

Sorry if you felt my frustration with these crash reports;( We are working hard on a sane crash reporting system. Even if we are not able to correct your issuse with the information provided, your report did help help us determine what we need the crash reporting system to do.

thanks

No problem. I understand how it goes (I'm at network engineer, but on the Windows side of things; Linux is still relatively 'new' to me). Hopefully you'll all get a better system in place so people like me (or people that know a great deal less) can help make things better.

/Kevin

I left my system idling overnight with Firefox 2.0.0.1 running, when I came in the morning, Firefox had crashed.

Hugh's crash reports is ignored as this is kevin's case.

FYI, crash reports should never be attached to existing bugs unless you know exactly that its a dupe. We will sort things out after analysing your crash report.

Thanks for your contribution,
