Firefox child windows width too small (german version)

Bug Description

Some of the Firefox windows (for example the window in Firefox Preferences > Content Tab > Extended FontConfig or Download List or the restore session...), but not all, are too small. Meaning that the right part of the window gets cropped off.
By resizing the window I can access everything, but the new size doesn't get stored...
I am using the (Swiss) German version of Ubuntu Edgy, installed via Internet. No extensions installed. This occurs on a fresh installation too. Problem has occurred in Dapper too, and on other computers as well. (Screenshot with small Preferences window: <http://launchpadlibrarian.net/7123637/Screenshot.png>)

In English version the Preferences window has the correct size at 10pt fonts. If 8pt fonts are used, some boxes get truncated. If 14pt fonts are, some boxes get too big. It is possible that the Preferences window size has it's predefined width:height ratio. The width is based on fonts size and the height is calculated using the mentioned ratio, which leads to truncated/too big boxes in case of small/big fonts.

Dunno if it's related, but I have found for a long time that Firefox's preferences dialogue often opens at a size too small to hold everything in it. This is the English version.

My fonts are all at 8pt. Looks like it only gets it right if the fonts are at 10pt. Even then the 'warning messages" section of the security tab is too small.

This is Feisty with all updates installed as of now (so Firefox 2.0.0.3).

How do you set fonts to 8pt? Are fonts in the preference dialog
really smaller compared to when you set 10pt?

System -> Preferences -> Font. Yes, they are smaller.

I set all fonts to 8pt. After that the "System Defaults" section of Main tab and the "Warning Messages" section of the Security tab are truncated.

No need to set all fonts to 8pt, just Application font. Also, it seems that the width of the Preferences dialog is related to the font's size and that there is default width:height ratio which is used for calculating the height. Apparently, the calculated height in the case of 8pt font is not large enough.

Now I'm pretty much sure about that default width:height ratio... I set application font to 14pt and now there's some extra space on Main and Security tab. With 10pt fonts there's just enough space, and with 8pt some stuff gets truncated.
