Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

In Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal with full Dutch localization, Firefox doesn't come automatically with the Dutch spell checker dictionary add-on. That has to be installed manually afterwards.

This is only so in Natty; previous versions of Ubuntu don't have this problem.

*** TEST CASE FOR SRU ***

Preparation:
Install Dutch spellchecking and writing aids using language-selector

To test:
1) Go to www.google.com, or some other site where you can enter text
2) Enter some text
3) Right click on the text, ensure "Check Spelling" is checked in the context menu and open the "Languages" submenu

Result:
- With firefox 4.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.11.04.1, there is no Dutch language option
- With firefox 4.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.11.04.2, you should see several Dutch options

It's automatically installed here, so I can't confirm the bug.

Chris Coulson (chrisccoulson) wrote :

This regressed in natty because /usr/lib/firefox-4.0/dictionaries is symlinked to the wrong folder. It should be symlinked to /usr/share/hunspell (like in maverick) rather than /usr/share/myspell/dicts

Chris, this looks good for SRU to Natty. I will accept it when uploaded to natty-proposed.

description: updated

Accepted firefox into natty-proposed, the package will build now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

I tested the Firefox from natty-proposed, and it works just fine. Magically, Dutch spell checking has been activated. :-)

Firefox continues to work fine, I've seen no crashes or otherwise negative side effects.

Many thanks to Chris Coulson, Clint Byrum and Martin Pitt.

This bug was fixed in the package firefox - 4.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.11.04.2

---------------
firefox (4.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.11.04.2) natty-proposed; urgency=low

  * Fix LP: #770719 - Dutch localization doesn't include spell-checker.
Look in /usr/share/hunspell for the system dictionaries on maverick
and later, rather than /usr/share/myspell/dicts. This got dropped
    somehow in natty
    - update debian/rules
    - update debian/firefox.links/in
  * Hopefully fix LP: #643899 - Firefox sending header "Accept-Language:
    chrome://global/locale/intl.properties" because the intl.accept_languages
preference is messed up. Drop a patch which causes the preferences
system to save a user preference when changing a preference value to equal
the system default value (and revert to the original behaviour where the
preference is just discarded). This should hopefully stop Firefox Sync
from breaking localized preferences where they haven't been modified by
the user, but does regress LP: #548866
    - update debian/patches/series
