Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Some times the context menu will close as soon the mouse is moved over them. I'm not sure this is limited to firefox, but it is were i have noticed it the most.
I have only see this problem in Natty, it might be related to unity.
I haven't found a good way to always replicate the issue.

My workaround is to minimize and restore the window. Then it works again.

It's really hard to reproduce. I tried. Sometimes I succeed sometimes not. I change between virtual desktops in unity and activate several applications on other v-desktops than where I have firefox. Then sometimes the described behaviour is reproduceable. Might be important to notice that firefox is maximised.

I'm using fedora 14 and firefox 4.0 and have the same problem. Mathume's workaround works for me as well.

So, it's not a problem with natty or unity.

With me Firefox (version 5.0, Natty Narwhal) is maximized also. The bookmark pane menus behave the same way. They (menus) started working normally after I turned on and off the «Context Search» add-on without restarting the browser.

Looks like the add-on has nothing to do with the issue. This time the bug stopped reoccurring after I opened the add-on tab. Maybe merely opening the settings interface will be enough next time.

This might be a duplicate of 796897. Moving to an adjacent workplace does cause the bug to occur sometimes. As for a workaround — the simplest I've found so far is clicking on the applet panel.

Changed in firefox (Ubuntu):

here is a good workaround : Go to advanced javascript settings in firefox under Edit >Preferences >Content.

Enter in 'Advanced' to 'javascript' and uncheck 'Disable or replace contex menus'

It works just fine for me on affected pages/sites ;-)

This is still an issue. I noticed it consistently with FF in 11.10 beta 2. Since todays upgrades, the issue has gotten worse.

The workaround of restore / maximize fixes the issue temporarily.

Would love to have this fixed, as it is very annoying and with so much work done in browsers now days, it will certainly be a detractor to new users of Ubuntu.

I noticed this problem only in my desktop which has an nvidia card. My laptop with intel doesn't show this issue.

For me, with 11.10, this issue is 100% reproducible with the scale plugin, so I tried to disable it and enable it again and the problem seemed to disappear, but after a few minutes it was back again.

Is there any experimental solution to mitigate this issue?

You could try running Unity 2D. The problem only occurs with Compiz
